Smart City
A smart city uses advanced information and communication technologies and modern management methods to improve quality of life.
A smart city is an effectively managed city. It uses today’s technologies to improve residents’ quality of life, builds on its strengths and overcomes its weaknesses. Community involvement is essential: it inspires ideas and helps identify the city’s needs. It is fundamental to a modern, well-managed city shaped by the real needs of its residents.
Smart cities are increasingly discussed in the context of sustainable development. The two are closely connected: developing a city and improving its residents’ quality of life require a coordinated approach across many areas of urban life.
Smart city initiatives usually focus on six key areas:
- People: community and public dialogue
- Governance: administration and infrastructure
- Quality of life: leisure spaces and culture
- Mobility: transport and parking
- Environment: clean air, green spaces and waste
- Economy: local and global connections, and entrepreneurship
